Lake Phalen: Our Neighborhood

Grocery Stores

Keeping the kitchen stocked with fresh produce is wonderfully simple thanks to two nearby grocery stores. For budget-friendly prices, head to ALDI, where you’ll find a robust selection of produce. The chain even carries a growing selection of organic produce. Along with a wide array of coffee, cheeses, frozen goods, and home necessities including paper towels and toiletry items, ALDI offers seasonal plants, baked goods, and a surprisingly wide selection of wine.

If you’re tired of the lines at grocery stores or are tight on time, then swing by Cub Foods. The grocery store has free online ordering and pickup. Just order your groceries online and schedule a pickup time. When you arrive at the store, friendly clerks will load your order into your car. The store’s website is also a terrific source for quick and easy recipes. There are recipes for everything from party dips and baked goods to weeknight chili and homemade agave butter.

Running Errands

With a CVS store and two U.S. Post Offices nearby, you can take care of everyday errands. You can even manage and review prescriptions online through the CVS pharmacy. And if you need a vaccine as flu season arrives, just head to the pharmacy. The accessible in-store clinic offers vaccines for everything from the flu and pneumonia to shingles.

For your banking needs, Lake Phalen is close to two banks. Both Sunrise Banks and TCF Banks are nearby and can assist you with any banking or financial questions. And if you need to pick up a few things for home, the Sun Ray Shopping Center is a great destination. Along with Cub Foods, the strip mall houses T.J. Maxx, Planet Fitness, T-Mobile, and Sally Beauty Supply.

Parks

Nearby parks are some of the many perks of living at Lake Phalen, as our senior residence is close to two walkable parks. Flicek Park is an expansive greenway great for all ages – including visiting grandkids. The four-acre youth athletic park features baseball fields and access to area trails. Even if you don’t have family heading to a game, you can bring a lawn chair and enjoy the action as you root for your favorite team.

Located just down the road in Saint Paul, Frost Lake is definitely worth the short drive. This spacious outdoor retreat has something for everyone. There are walking trails, a playground, a basketball court, baseball fields, a soccer field, three softball diamonds, and even a gently sloping sledding hill. Plus, the views of Frost Lake itself make for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon.

Restaurants

Need a quick breakfast or a midday slice of pie? Pull into Perkins. Not only does this chain have a rewards program, but it also offers a little something special on Mondays. Every Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. you can enjoy a free slice of pie with the purchase of an entrée. So why not gather up some friends and start a new tradition?

If you’re looking for fine dining, make a reservation at Porterhouse Steak & Seafood. The aged angus beef steaks compete with filet mignon and ribeye for best cut while the seafood options are temptingly impressive.

Located inside the Keller Clubhouse, the new Keller Grille restaurant has something for everyone. The approachable menu is stocked with appetizers, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and desserts. So after a day on the golf course, head inside for a filling lunch. You can also swing by for Sunday brunch when the restaurant rolls out its Bloody Mary bar.

The fast, casual Sui Yep Cafe is a delicious option for those nights when you’re craving Chinese food. All you have to do is decide if you’re in the mood for lo mein, egg fu young, pan fried noodles, or dumplings.
